Common questions
What do I need?
A MIAITEC Air Quality Monitor and an iPhone or iPad with iOS 17 or later. Without a monitor you
can still look around: choose Try without a monitor on the first screen, or turn
on Demo mode in Settings, to see the app with made-up readings.
How does the app connect to my monitor?
Over Wi-Fi when your iPhone and the monitor are on the same network, and over
Bluetooth when the monitor is nearby. The app switches between the two by itself.
There is no cloud service in between: the app talks straight to your monitor.
The app doesn't find my monitor.
Check that the monitor is switched on and that your iPhone is on the same Wi-Fi network, or close
by for Bluetooth. Then check that Air Monitor is allowed to use the local network and Bluetooth:
iPhone Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network and
› Bluetooth. The first Bluetooth connection asks you to pair with the code shown
on the monitor's screen.
Why does the app ask for the monitor's password?
Reading the air is open, but changing settings, updating the firmware and a few actions need the
monitor's web password, so a guest on your Wi-Fi can't change them. The app keeps the password in
your iPhone's Keychain.
I don't get alerts.
Allow notifications for Air Monitor in iPhone Settings › Notifications, and turn on
the alerts you want in the app. With Background alerts on, the monitor tells your
iPhone about a new alert over Bluetooth even while the app is in the background, so keep the
iPhone within Bluetooth range.
Where does the outdoor air come from?
In Singapore, the app can show the PSI, PM2.5 and weather that the National Environment Agency
(NEA) publishes on data.gov.sg, next to your indoor readings. It is optional and works only in
Singapore. Choose a place or your location in Settings › Outdoor air.
Does it work with Apple Home?
Yes, the monitor itself can join Apple Home. In the app, open Settings › Home Automation,
turn on Apple Home, and add the monitor in the Home app by scanning the QR code on the monitor's
screen. MQTT for Home Assistant is set up on the same page.
How do I update the monitor's firmware?
Open Settings › Firmware update in the app and choose the new firmware file. Your
settings and history are kept.
Can I use more than one monitor?
Yes. Add each monitor in the app; the Rooms page shows them side by side and
lets you compare them.
